Not possible to relate to zinc anyways. The v-6 isnt a flat tappet motor. Its just a peice of sht, and is now starting to prove it all by itself.

Dodges copout to find a replacement motor for the wrangler line when the L6 didnt make emissions anymore.

That thread is pretty obvious. Tell buddies crew members to check their oil once in a while. Just because a vehicle is only a year or two old, doesnt mean they cant consume oil.

Dont take this the wrong way. The JK isnt a bad wrangler, but any JK owner usually wouldnt hesitate to tell you that the v6 is the one thing they arent fond of.

I was being tongue-in-cheek.  ;)

Sure, engines a couple of years old can burn oil....but I don't agree that THAT much oil should be considered "consumable" instead of being considered an "issue".

It does bring up a valid point though.

People that know their engines can or do consume some oil peridodically tend to check their oil every time they fill.

People with nice new engines sometimes assume that their oil level will be good.

I check my oil when I fill mostly to see the colour - but I still pay attention to the level.

My wife was looking at an 08 Rubicon last weekend and one of my initial concerns was related to stories I have heard about the V6's self destructing.

The salesman suggested there is a lifetime warranty on the V6's - the following is an excerpt off http://www.jeep.com/en/lifetime_powertrain_warranty/

We're confident in our vehicles. And we want you to have that same level of confidence. That's why the Jeep® brand is the only automaker in the U.S. with a Lifetime Powertrain Limited Warranty with unlimited mileage[1] [2]. This exclusive warranty covers the cost of parts and labor needed to repair the engine, transmission and/or drive system for the lifetime of your vehicle.

So does this apply to all the JKs or just new ones and does it transfer with ownership or is it just for the original owners?

To my knowledge, it was never offered in Canada.

Not here, only south. Try getting the guy to put it in writing that it is available here.  ::)

One of the reasons I ponied up extra for 3 extra years on engine and drive-train warranty (nothing else though...)  If they wanna give me a new engine, I'll take it.  I'll put their money towards a Hemi and pay the difference plus an install kit.

Fact           Yes ,   two year old vehicles can consume oil .

Why   ?

Most drivers buy fuel at self serve stations  ,     how often do you see hoods raised and oil being checked ?    , how many vehicles are out there running around   one , two , three or more litres low on oil ?   , I'd say  lot's  !  . New engine or not this messes it up  as does not servicing them  , or ignoring the sevrice intervals entirely . Many vehicles are leased , who really gives a damn about maintenance on those ? .   Yes   , auto  manufacturers have extended maintenance intervals to what I believe to be an excessive length of time or distance , are oils and lubricants that much better now ?  , I think  not .

Very little  , it seems  is built to last or keep for the long term any more , society seems to replace rather than rebuild , it's what we have evolved to be  so this run the bag off of it and never open the hood driving style is  ,    um    ,   normal   today    ( sigh )

Todays society lives  a throw away life style .

Chrysler's 100,000 km tune up  ?    more  bs    if you ask me .

I probably should mention  , how many vehicles are there running down the road that have had tire pressures checked in the last year ?    or    how many drivers even own a tire guage ?  , not tha t this has anything to do with oil consumption , I just feel the need to finish my rant about how todays society is lame .

Disposable engines?  Possibly.

This is a bit hysterical and overexaggerated in spots, but she makes some good points:

Boy,this problem could turn real ugly for Chrysler,i remember the self destructing 2.7l v6 they used in intrepid's/sebrings ect,too them years to admit it the engine, not the owners that was the problem. They seem to enjoy losing customers

There are quite a few engines out there that have similar problems, I see more low milage Honda and Toyota engines run out of oil than the jeep engines.  Is this a bad thing??  I don't think so, I consider it job security. ;D
I just can’t resist a good mud hole!  🤦
