what do you think of this shim

D44, 4.56 gears shim..found some patterns on google, just wonderin what anyone else thought, if the pics aren't too crappy
be gentle, we're trying our best for first timmers, works ok with a 12 ton press and bearing seperator from PA

the pics aren't great.  helps to know if this is front or rear and high pinion or not.  i'll assume it is rear low pinion.

looks like the pattern is a bit high on the teeth so your pinion depth needs to be adjusted.  try adding 5/10 thousands or 20 and compare.

once you got that, you can add shims to the non gear side to try and bring the pattern lower to the toe of the drive side.  try 5 thousands to 10 thousand increments

coast side looks ok, just not deep enough

so we were making good progress till all of a sudden we were 3 steps backwards and going in the wrong direction..ahha..any, below is where im at now with 10thou backlash, what do you think.... overhaul kit only comes with 10thou carrier shims so...??

it's better - everything looks ok except a bit too low on the toe.  might be tough with a limited selection of shims to fix it.

i'd back the pinion off about 2-4 thousands then post. some pics.   it can take a lot of tries
