Is there a way to rig up the factory stereo so I can use an IPOD/MP3 in the Jeep TJ without having to spend the price of a new stereo?
You could try this
MOPAR® iPod Integration Kit (Depending on the radio you have) I have one...HOWEVER:
I have a '06 Rubicon with a 6 CD changer and bought this. It sits behind my instrument cluster and plugs into the radio in the remote CD magazine plug. The iPod cable runs to the glove box.
If I did it again, with what I know now, I'd replace the stereo instead. Why?
1) the MOPAR device was made when the iPod receives power through the firewire portion of the iPod connector. Now, I had to buy an adapter (between the MOPAR cable and the iPod so it supplies power).
2) the radio's functionality to control playlists, albums, aritists, etc. is limited, and I had to spend hours editing properties fields in iTunes so I could skip through albums alphabetically the way it is supposed to work (though it worked fine in the iPod itself).
3) The cost of a new radio (with the same or better iPod functionality) is less than the cost of the MOPAR adapter. I got the Integration kit from Chrysler here in Calgary - $350.00 plus tax and $50.00 for the power adapter. (the CDN/USD was not on par at the time)
I hope this helps...but check here
