Big tires with stock fenders - Police problems?

Has anyone who run 35"+ tires with stock fenders had problems with the police in Calgary?  I'm thinking of upgrading my stock wheels/tires on my 07 JK, but I've heard there may be some problems with the law in Alberta - having tires that are a bit bigger than the fenders on your rig.  I know aftermarket fender flares are available, but the ones I like are almost 800 bucks, they would have to come after my lift/tires/wheels.

You heard right. The law does stay that your fenders much cover your tires, and that you need to have fender or mudflap coverage down to the midpoint in the rear.

That said, lots of folks skirt the edge of that law without getting hassled too much. A lot of it depends on what mood the cops are in, and how you respond to them.

i found a lot of it is just how you drive, i have a couple buddies who are cps, and they have 2 door jk's running 35's and i run 37's on mine, the only time ive ever got hassled is if i was already pulled over for speeding ( due to me not recalibrating my speedo ) other then that im problem free. i recently installed the wide bushwacker flares on my jk, but that was more to keep some of the dirt of the rig.

Yea, that's what I figured... As long as you drive normal and aren't a dick they'll probably leave you alone...

im running 35's and stock TJ fenders and my tires stick out about 3 inches each side and i have yet to have a problem .

just drive normal and dont jump curbs and theyll probably leave you alone

i find that the biggest issue is that the rear of the tire is exposed so if you put mud flaps on and they see you took that into consideration  theyll probably never even look twice and just keep rolling by

Nobody's bugged me yet, 35 x 12.5's, with wheel spacers, and tube fenders.  And my bumper definitely does NOT come down the centre of my wheel's diameter as per CSA/DOT legal requirements.  Heard the same thing about McLean, but I think that was just during May Long when the fuzz is pulling guard duty and keeping people reasonable out there.  In BC your tires can't stick out past your fenders AT ALL.

Your problem with wider tires on a JK is going to be ripping the stock fenders off.  Your tires will hit the lip when you flex and pop the clips unless you've got at least a TRUE 3" lift.  If it's sagging below that POP, and they're annoying to get back on.  I think you should be able to drive around town without too much problem though.  Feels like I JUST said this the other day somewhere on this board..... deja vu.

i have 31 with spacers and for awhile i had the stock flares and if your Going to offroad with stock flares mud is going to fly everywhere i drove around Calgary for about 2 weeks with NO flares and cops didn't say anything but id almost reccommend getting flares first i got the bushwhackers from modern motors for 600 i think and i think they look pretty good
