Door removal - easy
« on: April 20, 2010, 06:03:26 PM »
Since the weather has been nice for a few days I decided to try and take the doors off of the TJ again.  I tried this once before and gave up.  I thought there was no way these doors were coming off.  I read a lot about different problems people had had so I knew I wasn't alone in with this problem.  I came up with an idea modified from using a jack-all, which I don't have, on the bottom of the door.  I first gave everything a good soak with penetrating oil, then off came the nuts, next I took a 1/4" drive 1/4" deep socket with a long extension and a bottle jack and pressed the bottom pin out while opening and closing the door.  The socket I used sat on the shoulder of the pin so there was no contact with the thread.  Since it was the same diameter as the door pin I was able to press the pin all the way out.  Both doors only took about 15 minutes and most of that time was spent getting the tools.   Too bad they will have to go back on by the end of the week (damn Calgary weather!).

Its too easy to just lift it off.... I like to wedge a 2x4 under the open door and lift the jeep from the opposite side, and if you think spit works good you should try the blood from a bear stabbed with a fork during mating season.
