Cell phone contract???
« on: January 20, 2006, 09:19:40 PM »
Anyone know what's generally involved in terminating a cell phone contract?

I can't remember/find the papers I signed.

I've got 2years left on my contract and got the phone ($600 value) as part of the contract.

The phones been repaired once.  I sent it back to get repaired again 4 months ago, and now they're telling me the repair shop has lost the phone, and no one can tell me what they're going to do about it.

I've generally been happy with the cell phone coverage the past 9 years.  However, I'm a little feed up with the cell phones they choose to carry.

[rant off]

so can someone please tell me:
What penalties are involved in terminating cell phone contract?
What generally happens with the cell phone that came with the contract?

Thanks,
-Joel

there is a thing called vacation disconect.  you can pay about $10 a month till the end of your contract runs out.   just tell them your leaving the country and dont know when you will be back.  it can all be prepaid in one shot.  thats what i did last year with terrible Telus.

Generally, you pay a percentage of your monthly payment for every month you have left.

Depending on who you're with there's a maximum you pay... I'm fairly certain Telus said they were a max of $200 when I was looking into it, THINK Roger's is a max of $180.

What kinda phone did you have that they lost?  Did you pay for it originally or was it part of a package?  I'd tell them, they lost your phone, instead of making them pay for a new one, you'll just walk away from the contract, which will save tem money in the long run anyway.

Good luck
