not firing on all cylinders
« on: January 30, 2006, 09:17:53 PM »
so here's the deal, I have a 93 yj with the I6, and currently when driving it seems to be only running on like four of the six cylinders. Now last time this happened I had to change the cps, and I am thinking that this could be the problem, but seeing how it was only changed less then 10000km's ago I really hope not. It seems to run and rev perfectly in neutral but it is only under load that it miss fires. Any help would be great, thanks guys.

Cheapest quick check is to look for fouled plugs. Then look for dreid out, cracked, burnt, nearly broken plug wires. Pop the dist cap off and look for badly burnt contact windows.

Start with that stuff and see how it goes from there. Sounds like ignition to me.

Oh, and since I've seen the mud you've played in, check youy muffler and cat for mud (tap em with a hammer). If you packed them before, some could breaking up in there and plugging things off. Happened to me once, caused same symptoms under engine load.

Good luck
