cherokee died no power to anything inside
« on: April 25, 2010, 11:39:08 PM »
hello all? new to forum this is my first question. I have searched the problem and come up with nothing, I was driving home saturday in the wet blowing snow, my voltage meter in the truck started droping to nothing then going back up to around 14, if I turned on the blower or the wipers it would drop way down then go back up, I shut off the radio and blower and a few miles later every thing went dead. the lights work, and the four ways work but nothing inside the jeep works. the battery is fully charged, I disconected the sol wire off the starter relay and shorted it to the power wire on the starter relay and the starter spun like it should but in the cab nothing happens when I turn the key, no clicking, no blower motor, no seat belt buzzer, no radio, I replaced the starter relay but still nothing... thanks for any help   Phatrick

Have you checked all your fuses?  If all good check the wiring, nothing melted or burned and tight. Make sure that the battery is fully charged and the terminals are clean and tight. If every thing looks good then I'd suspect the fuseable link. Some times they go like you described, no power insides like you said and some times they allow some power thru but not enough to have the jeep run. As well make sure that the wires going to the back of the ingition switch are tight. Good luck

Check you ignition switch that is mounted on the steering column not the key switch but the one mounted about half way down the column. The same thing happened to me about 2 years ago on my 92 XJ.
98 XJ Classic with a Fulltraction 6" lift 35" MTZ on Procomp rims. Locked front and rear with 4.56 gears. Warn bumber with 9000lb winch. Custom built rock rails, rear bumber with sotc, and skid plates.

Thanks guys, we got the problem fixed. A wire had worn out and that was why there was no power. $80 at the shop is a good day.
