please help my 1998 jeep cherokee wont stay in first gear (its a manual transmission) the only way i can get it to stay in first is if i hold the gear shift in first gear and slowly let the clutch it then pops or clunks into first gear. Could my problem be shift linkage or a messed up gear? If i just put the jeep into first gear without poping it in it just grinds and pops out. Any advice on how to fix my problem would be great.
