Winch is always a great idea.

From there, protective items like steering skids and diff cover skids should be a high priority. Most importantly the front diff cover.

Shaving the diff covers lower lip back a bit so it doesnt overhang the housing is another good precaution. They like to hang on stumps and what not, then peel back.

Recovery gear. A good solid tow strap. Minimum 2" 20 footer. 3" 30 foot is an jeep tow strap.

A shackel or two (3/4" from princess auto are good deals)

Ensuring you have tow points front and rear

A general toolkit inside the jeep. Watch for the crappy tire sale on those 200 and some peice sets for 65$. Comes in a flate case, you can even fit it under your seat.

A CB or at least a two way for going on outings with groups like the jeep club.

Theres a bit to get you started.

Lift, tires, winch, bumpers, lockers, bigger lift, bigger tires, bigger axles, new lockers, more lift, bigger tires again, etc.  You probably get the picture

Seriously though, the first thing you need to do is HONESTLY decide what you want to be able to do with the Jeep.  Then I would say lift and tires and then right behind that a winch.  I know a lot of people will say winch first but you can get away without one if you go with a lot of people.
