Safari/Bikini Top Installation
« on: May 12, 2010, 08:52:55 PM »
Picked up a TJ from a member of this forum:  Working out great, BTW!  2001 TJ Sport (the Sport decal is gonna be gone as soon as I can find a long extension cord and hair dryer!).

I picked up two soft tops:  safari (for when my son rides) and a bikini (when I want to blast myself and passenger in the back of the head with rain).  The guys at Modern Motors always kick @$$!.  They set me up with the gear to install it (plus a needed Hidden Hitch), but as I sit here looking at the windshield channel, I wonder if I can install it and still use the factory softtop, without having to remove the channel.  The Bestop part number is 51210-01.  Here are the installation instructions:  http://static.summitracing.com/global/images/instructions/bst-51210.pdf

My question is:  Can I put the channel in place and switch from the safari and bikini tops, but still use the factory soft top without removing the channel?  Will it damage the factory gasket for the factory top if I need to go fully covered?  Calgary weather is unpredictable, so I need a back-out to keep my son dry.

I have a CJ with a full and bikini top that use the front-facing rectangular channel to attach either top, so this new round technology is confusing...   :)

Thanks!
