So I tried to search this topic before posting this but I was unable to get a proper explanation...
I have a 98 XJ and ever since I bought it the automatic transmission has been producing a slight rattle in first gear between 1,500 and 2,000 RPM's. It seems like a hollow knocking sound. It's fairly quiet but most noticable when accelerating from a stop, turning left or right from a stop, or even slowly acending an incline like a driveway. It will knock 5 or 6 times, then it goes away.
It sounds like its coming from under the center consol below the shifter on the passenger side, but i guess it could be originating from anywhere...
The tranny shifts fine and selecting gears is not a problem. part-time, full-time, and 4LOW all work fine.
Any ideas to fix this minor annoyance?
