Transmission noise
« on: June 15, 2010, 08:55:05 PM »
Ok, so.

In my trani, between 1st and 2nd. It makes a strange noise when the gear is either engaged or semi engaged ( like when I'm downshifting ) I never hear it in any other gear.

It seems to be getting worse and no one can figure it out. It sounds like someone grinding coffee but in the bathroom.  :o

If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.....as I have no desire to spend another chunk of money for someone to say "sorry ma'am I couldn't find anything.....That's 400 please" I am hoping someone has had this issue. The jeep was bought used, and it appeared to have been run on a trail.
I already had to replace the clutch. And it has only 65k on it and he's a 2005 with a 6spd.

Cheers

does sound like a synchro is going..... has the tranny fluid been changed/flushed recently?  what does the tranny fluid look like?  if if hasn't' been done since you've owned it, do it.  might have water in it or something like that anythings possible

jeeps make noises. just remember, when they STOP, then you have to start worrying...........................  means whatever was makin the noise has kicked the bucket.

something to keep in mind, if ur gonna wheel, learn to change fluids;   cause its easier to change them 3x a year than blow a tranny/tcase/diff................

I am getting modern to dump the fluid when they put in the suspension lift.
If it is a syncro, is that a big job  :-\ makes me nervous just hearing that.........

Thanks
