garage/shop rental
« on: July 12, 2010, 05:31:39 PM »
me and mrs pook are looking at moving, and the new place probably wont have a garage. so i was wondering if there is some place that you can rent out a bay or shop on a monthly basis? i want to have my welder and all my tools set up so i can work when i need to. dont mind renting a garge but want security for all my tools and would need washroom facilities etc..

anybody have any ideas on this?

some old friends of mine did exactly this. they rented a bay in an industrial area. essentially it had a big bay door and a man size door. it was one of about a dozen built into one building. they all paid the rent and used it as storage, had plenty of room for a few vehicles and all the tools they needed. they built their tucks up in there. eventually a few guys dropped out cause they bought houses and whatever. so they al backed out after a couple years. of course this was in winnipeg where the monthly fee wasnt all that much. but you could always look into it in some of the older industrial areas. may not be too bad with a few people joined in on the contract.

pook, if thats an option for you that you're looking at, i could be tempted to pitch. i could use a place to store the camper............................. and if its heated, work on the YJ in the winter

Me too - if there is room and the cost is reasonable.

i will look into it, the problem with most of the garages in the area is that they are just for storage and not for shop use. i wont be looking at this any time soon but i am starting to do the research.

I would consider getting into a shop sharing arrangement, too, depending upon cost. Heated only, though -- if I'm paying for a place, I expect to be able to use it all year.

For the information of anyone who's hunting for garage rentals on the Kijij or whatever, 95% of them are very clearly stated as storage only, and the ones that allow car repairs are extremely expensive. I've been told that it's for insurance reasons.

I could use an extra garage space as well.

Mike you need your own... that ZJ is gonna have extra parts spewing from every orifice... not to mention your ensuing ground up restoration (rusty bit by bit).
if we were smart with our money we wouldn't own Jeeps.

Maybe Blair would have an idea since he is in the commercial Real Estate business. Even if he just knows someone. Maybe a place to start.

Had pretty much the same idea with Kyle during the last meeting at Timmy's ...

So count me in if there is something heated out there ...
