CB Radio

Just picked up cb of Kijiji.
Came with two 4ft whips and external speaker.
Its a little old but figured 40 bucks oh well.
Havn't heard anything over the cb at all since it was mounted on Saturday.
Is it usually pretty quiet now a days?

Did a search about CJA cb channels and read an argument about changing it from 13?
Still exist?

you wont find much on the cb from cja unless it is on the trail.  our home channel is 10 on the trails.

channel 19 is the most popular.  if you cant pick anything up there, you aren't close enough to deerfoot or barlow and maybe the ring road now.

The other question is does anyone know where I can pick up a new set of dual coax cable and the rear hatch antenna mounts?

Generally you need 8 ft of seperation between dual antennas for them to be any benefit. Not saying it won't work but you won't see any improvment over a single antenna.

You should save your money and just use the one antenna like Clay say. $40 is a good deal if it works, Drive down to foothill ind area and turn to ch 19. you should hear something soon enough. If not just speak up and say "radio test" a couple of times someone will respond, If not just say something rude about truckers , If you still can't hear anything there probably something wrong

Any idea on what kind of range I might have?
Sorry if there is more to factor in don't know much about it.

a good setup, about 5 Km
an average setup, 3 Km

you may hear further than you can transmit.  depends on who is transmitting and with what.
