CB Radio Help!!!
« on: February 27, 2006, 03:49:34 PM »
Hey Everyone, I have installed a Uniden CB into my TJ, wired it in, and mounted the antenna on the back right panel, but all that I receive is static. Even when I disconnect/connect the Coax cable, the hiss doesn't change at all. If anyone could help, or knows of a shop that would deal with a repair/installs, please let me know! I need to get it fixed soon as I need it for the trails!!!

Thanks alot!!

-Sean

turn the squelch (sp?) up so it doesnt hiss.  Go to channel 19 and drive down deerfoot and you should hear someone, if you don't try turning down the squelch.  Or if you have a friend with one get them to transmitt to you.

You may need to get the antenna tuned. See Dean at Roadking on Barlow Trail

Also ensure the ANL (automatic noise limiter) switch is on.

Thanks for the replies. I went down to Comtech at the Roadking and my box turned out to be fried, so I got a new box and Installed it when I got home. So I am going back tommorow later in the afternoon to get the antenna tuned so hopefully I will have no more problems.

Now the problem is no longer the Box, but is somewhere either at the cable or the mount/connector because there is no signal... So I am hoping that the connection was just wet and I am going to try it later tommorow.

Where did you get your antenna? Are you 100%  sure is for a CB? If its not for a CB but for another band you can damage your radio.

Are you dealing with new or used stuff? Can you take a pic of your antenna mount? Are you using a spring at the base of the antenna? I just found that my spring  was broken inside. Probably not an issue if its new but something to look at if its used.

Give us more info on your setup.

All of the parts are new, so it wouldn't be spring etc. I think it might be my mount for some reason, maybe some water is messing up the connection, because the box is working forsure, and the antenna is maybe a month old. So its got to be the mount, as the coax is about the same age, and it can't be the one that is malfunctioning. This is beginning to become a big pain in the arse haha. The only time I can get any kind of reception is when I am about a block or less from a rig that is using its radio, and even then, its very broken up. All I want is a working CB!!!

And I will take a picture of the mount as soon as I can, possibly later on tonight I can get it posted.

I had similar CB problems at first. I was missing one of the insulating rings in the CB antenna mount and the antenna was grounding out.

There is a 2nd CB shop on 14th ST SW. It's on the west side of the road north of 17th avenue SW. The guy who runs the shop found the short in my system and fixed it. He charges for his time but it is cheaper than blowing up your radio because you have a short. The shop is in an old house so it is easer for the owner to leave the shop to look at your system.

Hey thanks alot sahara, cause I live just near that so it will definately help. I did some cleaning and reworking of things tonight, scrubing all dirt off the metal etc, and I got it working somewhat. I can recieve, just not with much clarity so I think it is just a tune left to do.

Thanks alot everyone, hopefully it works soon enough.
