YJ shackle reversal
« on: October 08, 2010, 03:25:58 PM »
before i get antsy and order this

http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_yj_shackle_reversal.html

anyone know what kind of issues i'll be running into driveshaft wise?  my guess is that'll it won't be long enough on droop and might bind at full stuff right?

asides from installing the kit and measuring anyone have any first hand experience?

also, this would work with my rubicon express springs right?

Tj put that on his old YJ. Yes you will need a longer drive shaft, probaly need one with a long spline.

Forgive me on this, I know very little about leaf springs....but how will those improve the ride quality that you get from those jack stands?
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

yjs running good ;)

you guys and your rubicons...... silly   my jeeps your jeeps daddy ;) remember that  :o or something

with the spring mounted in the front and the shackle in the rear, the axle, under articulation, (like hitting a bump) will move to the rear, causing less of a shock on bumps.

was just wondering because the makers of these kits say a new shaft might be required, but i'm just curious before doing the swap, and needing a new driveshaft....

A resounding YES, but do it. After you spiffy-up your ZJ.
if we were smart with our money we wouldn't own Jeeps.

I think Trev's got the right idea.  YJ's running good, DON'T MESS WITH IT!  The Jeeps you've been looking at all need work, and that costs money.  Save the bones until you've got your replacement daily driver, and it's purring like a kitty, and we all know how you like kitties.
Unless you think you need to replace the driveshaft anyway .  .  . (it's amazing how little help I can be when I put my mind to it).

Well said  Johnny;;  Maybe adding a cv style joint instead if the u joint would be all the differance you need and take away the chance of the joint binding and breaking at full droop
I started out with nothing and so far I have most of it left

this is a great article that goes thru the pro's and con's of reversal vs. stock on a yj

they dont speak to the co$t of converstion , the pros/cons make some good points like
the stock setup provides more bite on the average hill climb and reversed on steep
hills your reversal will have the axle wanting to walk away ....

my preference is to keep my $ in my pocket  for something else  like if i wanted a better
ride i'd get a tj   ::) ...  just saying

I don't like the idea of my front axle wanting to "walk away from me" on hill climbs.  I would save your money for something else.  I know it would ride better and understand the dynamics of the the axle movement but leafs are leafs it ain't ever going to be very comfy.  I just run them a: because they are cheap, b: because most people think links and coils are the only way to go (controversy ) c: that's what I got and I got more than enough things to spend my jeep money on.  Sorry got off topic.  If you are looking at changing maybe look at linking it if you want to do something.
