« on: March 01, 2006, 10:01:24 PM »
im curious what engine oil people are using for there 4.0L?

i have been useing ESSO 5W30.  im told 10w30 may quiet the typical lifter noise...

and i also wonder sho uses the walmart stuff,  "Tech2000"  its about half the price of all the other brands....   could it be that crappy they sell for so cheap?

I use Mobil1 5W30 in the wifes Liberty, and Mobil1 10w30 in my old Comanche.  Its a bit of overkill, but really not that more expensive if you change your own oil.  There is a large debate whether fully synthetic oil is necessary for our climate, probably not, but it makes me feel a bit more secure knowing I have oil pressure instantly on even the coldest winter mornings.

Probably wouldn't run Mobil1 if I had an oil burner or leaker or on a BRAND NEW Jeep, wait till break-in period is over, maybe 10,000 -  15,000km on the engine. 8) Fortunately for me, all my old Junk is VERY broken in

I run either AMSoil 10W30 or Mobile1 10W30  synthetics. I have an older 4.2L but the basic design is the same as the 4.0L.

I do my own oil change every 5000 Km and I use 5W30 Cheapo "Superior" Crappy Tire oil... It's not recycled oil.

I thought you where just paying for the namebrand on the more expensive oils like Mobil or Quakerstate. What do you guys think?

How about additives to make the oil more "sticky" (Lucas..or others)...

PS: DARREN... one word... BEERs!!! :D

Cheers,
