i saw CAD drawings of them online and in mags years ago but they never did get the actual things built until 1 year ago or so. they had them on a rig in KOH as well for testing. neet idea but unimog portals achieve the same thing for less moneys. even Axle Tech has bolt on portals for half the price. but, it is nice to see someone trying something different.

i was talking about these las tnight and then they were on tv today

there so cool but i think you can build 60's for way cheaper and be happy with huge tires and just watch your lines for clearence

Just think though, 33" tires would have the same pumpkin clearance as 40" tires!  That would ba a nice low centre of gravity.  They advertise 7" more clearance than a dana 60.

You wouldn't have to lift as high for ground clearance..but...you'd have to lift it high so the body and engine would clear the top of the diffs  :o

They are nice but it seems kinda pointless to put these in and then put D44 outers on :P

dana 44 outers are strong enough for 1 ton trucks, that's prob as strong as them axles would be rated for as well.

These guys actually seem to be using D60 kncukles/hubs/etc.

A bolt-in set of Currie Rock Jock high pinion Dana 60's will run you about $7000 US (at least for my JK that's the price). But then again, we're not talking apples-to-apples here. The Atomic price looks to include carriers, gears, and ARB lockers as part of the purchase price, whereas the Currie does not.

Currie axles at 7K plus new lockers and gears...there's 10K. Add some more change if you don't have disc brakes ready to bolt up.

Atomics seem to come with everything including disc brakes. All for 14K. Still more money, no doubt, but each person needs to decide what that ground clearance is worth. That extra 7 inches sure isn't cheap, but if we were smart with our money we wouldn't own Jeeps.

The other thing to keep in mind is that in terms of clearance under the pumpkin, you need to add TWO inches of tire diameter to get ONE inch of clearance. For instance, going from 32's to 35's only gave me an extra 1.5 inches of clearance under the diffs. In order to get 7 inches extra clearance under the diff, you'd need to increase your tire size by 14 inches. Sure, clearance under the diffs is only one of a large number of things to look at in a rig...but those axles do look to offer an interesting advantage.

HPS4evr has a point too - these are not the only game in town when it comes to increasing ground clearance. Unimogs axles are a potential solution, and they also offer extra gear reduction within the "portals" at the end of the axles - if that floats your boat :)
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

Smaller tires... same clearance.. less stress on the knockles... D44 knokles...less weight.

37 on atomic axles  has the same clearance then 42 on a D60

the main point is clearence with small tires .

for what we have here in alberta is there a point to needing all that clearence when a stock TJ with 31's can go almost anywhere

no not realy but hey if you had the money you would spend it on dumber things then that im sure

there nice very nice but not on my wish list

Having the front axle pumpkin centered seems like it would put the front driveshaft at a weird angle and you would have to make sure it clears the oil pan in compression

Otherwise, they seem like cool axles
