bfg crawlers- are you running them? do you like them?

hey guys,

im currently running 37" m16's on my '08 jk, looking to go bigger and better , thinking i want to run 39x13.50r17 bfg crawlers, everything ive read online says they are a good all around tire, just not the best in the mud. just wondering if anyone on here has run them and can give me some feedback.

i don't know how fast you drive, but the max speed that tire(in that size that is) is 120km/h, so I hope you don't like to make the highway speed runs.

I would say that the km2 in either a 38 or a 40 may not be a bad option, depending on what your gearing is like I guess, would handle speed better with almost the same tread, with a extra grove or two in the tire, and likely last a little longer(bigger blocks in the crawler does not allow the head to get released as well as the km2(still not great, but better), my 2 cents, havent driven on either, but that is some of what i know

Are you running stock axle assemblys  under your JK?

Wouldn't 39" tires in any configuration be pushing it?

I've got a friend in BC who has the Krawlers in the 39" size( Red Labels) on his TJ but he's running a  Dynatrac Dana 60 in the front and 14 bolt in the rear. It's a trailered  vehicle and he loves them in Moab, but hates wheeling on them here in muddy trails. Some additional siping/grooving could help?

that is why I figure the km2's would be a not too bad option, I think were both an inch wider, same design, just with more tread blocks, slightly less rugged looking sidewall(but not by much)

I have the blue label krawlers, but only in 35" and love them.   My jeep only see's pavement when it's driven to the trails, so the krawlers have lasted me over 5years.   also, the krawlers only perform at lower psi, so be prepared to run them on beadlocks, otherwise you'll be very  disappointed.  Like most bfg's, sidewall is still a weak link, so you'll need to be mind full of that when your on the trail.

If your jeep is a dedicated trail rig and see's little pavement, go with the blue label krawlers and have them siped (better traction off-road, runs cooler on the street) and they have a softer compound, but noticeably heavier then the KM2's, and a tad more expensive.  Downside, is they're not great on the mud, and they are as loud as a boggers on the highway.

Km2's if you plan on driving it on the road.  harder compound, lighter, cheaper, not too load on the highway and from what I've read, may not perform as well as krawlers off-road.   At 39" or 40" on stock axles, be prepared to be changing wheel bearings monthly, but I'm sure you knew that already. 

If skies the limit, then go with Red Label Krawlers.  Tires are insanely soft and sticky.

You should also look at the new MTR Kevlar's, there seems to be a lot of buzz on the internet.

axles are being changed to dana 60's, 5.38's and lockers, so no worries there. it is still a daily driver... kinda, 3 years, 26000 kms, so not much for driving, alot of that is probaly on trails too. i want a nice aggresive tire, that will perform awesome offroad, and be reasonable on the street
