Bought this 2008  X Sport last week. First Jeep. 30,000 k.  got all 5 original tires and wheels with it and the tire carrier. Both tops. I think it needs to experience some off highway driving as I've been over it front to back, droped the fluids just in case the owner's story differed from reality and it's super clean.

Here come the questions:
- as I keep getting asked and don't know; what brand front bumper is on my unit and where do you get the plate/3rd light deal installed in place of the carrier?
- Are the stock diffs  limited slip or do I have to upgrade or were there options?
- my steering  St. shock is leaking, is white with red boot but no name or ID on it. Lift kit is 3 inch Zone. Recomend a replacement please
- should I switch tires to stock prior to taking unit to dealer for warranty work ( t case is seeping between the halves) or will they care about the lift/tires/ cold air intake?

a good dealership will honor the warranty. as long as ther issue doesnt apply to the modifications. you dont have to change the wheels.  pm me if you need any further dealer info. the front bumper looks like it may have come from olympic 4x4, it kinda looks like their style. it looks to be an X model so my guess is you're got an LSD in the rear and thats it. upgrades are available.

Based on what you're saying here, the first thing I'd do is get the transfer case taken care of.

Then I'd get a new steering stabilizer. The brand doesn't really matter - to be honest there's nothing wrong with the stock one.

Then I'd get a spare that's the same size as the four tires that you're running on the Jeep now. A full sized spare is normally required equipment on the trail.

Then I'd make sure that you've got recovery points front and rear. It's important to have a safe place to attach a winch line or recovery strap to when you do get stuck.

Most dodge dealers are denying anything they have an excuse for. They are broke, and will likely try to attribute your t-case leak to your lift, or abuse if they can find any under carriage damage, etc etc etc.

I just went though trying to have a transmission warrentied with dodge for almost a year. Between bad techs, and hard to deal with service writers, I finally traded the peice of crap in because it was never going to get any better and the dealer was just avoiding trans replacement until the warrenty was done.

You might get lucky, but I would be supprised.

I have been net surfing and man is there a ton of stuff for Jeeps out there. The tire carrier is going back on and I'm trying to locate another rim. tow hooks are in the works ( surf item) too as there was nothing on the front to speak of.  Suggestions based on my front bumper?

Those tires look like they might be 35's.  If so you might want to check the weight/diameter to be sure the stock tire carrier will take the larger wheel.

Jim does have a point there. If you are going to use the stock carrier for a set of 35's (or even heavy 33's), you may have problems in the long run. The hinges might be taxed by the extra weight, and the stock carrier is only held onto the tailgate by 8 nuts that are tack welded onto the inside of the sheet metal.

If you're not ready to spring for a full-on aftermarket carrier just yet, you can install a strengthening kit on the inside of the tailgate. They're made by MBRP, and you can get them through Northridge 4X4 in ponoka. They're not hard to install...just be prepared to leave some skin behind on the inside of the tailgate

i dont mean to go off topic but this has been an unfortunate truth in calgary. im not pointing fingers but i hate to hear about this sort of thing. a few bad apples paint us all as dis-honest techs. i work in a dealer as a tech and we've seen plenty of people denied warranty by other dealers when in fact they should have had full repairs done under warranty. sorry to hear of your bad experience Bill, idont know which dealer you were using but i hope they change their ways.

Update:  Went to Varsity as they are real close to my work. They  took care of the T case  no questions asked, performed a few updates, ordered some parts for a "inner fender liner" recall and handed me an invoice for $0.00. Overall pleasant experience.
