« on: November 21, 2010, 05:06:06 PM »
ok so i got my hands on an OLD    8274 or at least i think it is . it has a manual brake lever on it ive never seen one like it
but the rest looks the same as any other 8274

so the motor is done and the one side has a crack in it

was wondering if there places i can pick up parts for these besides WARNS website

Isn't Modern the dealer in Calgary? Wouldn't hurt to give them a call tomorrow Jeff.
if we were smart with our money we wouldn't own Jeeps.

One side of what has a crack in it?

I'd say that even if you have to buy a brand new motor, a rebuild kit for the gearbox, and new line...you're still gonna end up with a pretty good deal for what you paid!

I dunno if this is that same model, but here's a link to a rebuild write-up:

I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

ok so i did some fast reading

warn does not make parts for this M8000 any more . its looks exactly like the 8274 except its very old theres not control for these units

they would only pull in and free spool . and the brake was a manual brake and thats means you would have to stand beside the winch to operate
or like some people have done it run cables inside the cab that would allow them to pull this cable and that would apply the brake

but some people in the states have rebuilt these using some parts from the newer 8274 making it a very good winch
i think ill stop by modern with it and get someones opinion on it  ..

I've had the "Daddy of the 8274" on my old CJ. I believe it was called the Warn -Belleview8000(there should be a tag with the model number) I rebuilt it in 2000 after years of abuse and the only failure was the drum brake ( I was using mechanics-wire to hold it) The parts were still readily available at the time from Danco. It was the second fastest winch I've owned next to the 8274. Warn had a warehouse in Edmonton that still had some parts for the 8000 model in stock back in 2005.

Good luck

Its not a Warn(unless stamped as such). Its probably a Belleview 5687. i have one in mint condition on my 77CJ5.
Warn bought out Belleview in the early 70's (i believe 74). There is only one place in North America that has parts matching for these things. He is in Minnesota.

It does have a remote. Its an in cab control for pulling forward. There is only forward and free spool, no reverse on these winches. If you want to see mine, i can arrange for you to come over. i think i am missing a part on it though.
i have the schematics for this winch as well.

Mine was stamped " Warn-Belleview 8000 "

The 8000 denotes it's rating. There's also a 6000lb model .

I remember Sonny had a bunch of spare/old models out back in the shed at Modern.
