did i blow another Slave cylinder?
« on: December 19, 2010, 04:59:32 PM »
the YJ clutch pedal got kind of spongy the other day.  it almost engages off the floor.  i've been driving quite a bit lately and it definitely feels different.  it does work just fine though;  disengages and engages clutch. but it definitely feels different.  i remember this kind of happening last year, and then the slave went.

i checked the master slave cylinder and it didnt' look really low.  dont' remember if it was any lower than last time i checked it. put the new clutch in february, new slave too.  as far as i can see there is no leaking.

lastly, i've been driving it all summer with no problem. it was bled good in feb.  and hasn't been what i think an issue til now.  just wondering, is this a symptom of a bad slave going?

We'll make plans to go wheeling with me riding shot gun. The slave will blow on the way to my house. I'll have the tow truck ready.

Try pumping the clutch pedal 20-30 times and see if pedal gets any firmer.  If it does and then goes spongy again, the integrity of the system has become compromised, so yeah, I would be looking at your slave.  Same thing happened to mine when my slave went.  The pedal felt spongy but then I would pump it and it would be fine for a bit.  I was also loosing fluid from the reservoir as well.

will try tonight Scott.  also, if it firms up and stays there, think this was just a random 'its really cold' issue?  i am pretty sure this is how it felt for a few months on and off before i blew the slave before.  *sigh*

to update, i did what you said scott......... pumped her 30 times then got out to check the fluid. after fighting with the cap on the master cylinder, got it off to check the fluid level; well some fluid dripped out'; so i'm guessing it was full, but then i went to push the clutch again and it went straight to the floor..............

so ya. either slave or master cylinder are gone.  twould be my guess
