New to the forums and jeep ownership!
« on: January 16, 2011, 11:00:57 PM »
Hellooo calgary! Bought my first jeep this summer, its an 08 unlimited x. Everything on the jeep is stock. My background is electronics on vehicles of all sorts so I added all new speakers and a bazooka tube sub to the back, 2way compustar pro Remote starter and alarm with custom microwave sensor for when the top is  off.  This is going to be my first real foray into any type of mechanical work once i start working on it. I got to take it to some fun places in the summer on my backpacking trips and got lazy so we let the jeep do the climbing instead of us!
Edit: removed to ease your opinion of me :p

look forward to mudding in the future!

Welcome.  Good to see you are enjoying your jeep.

Just a word or warning tho... our club promotes tread lightly and that means staying on the trail.  There's a ton of people out there that would love to shut down offroading completely so it's important we don't give them ammunition to do so.  When the trail ends... so does the wheeling... no need to "drive over some trees".  You can have a buttload of fun with a jeep and still wheel responsibly.

Hang out, read some of the board topics, ask some questions.. maybe come out to a meeting or an open run (we have a couple coming up) and enjoy the new jeep.

PS You'll only look forward to mudding until you find out how brutal it is on parts.  :D  ;)  ;D

"what do you do when the trail dissapears? drive over some trees of course!"

if the trail dissapears, you stop and turn around or walk.

we have trail systems same as others have pavement and we stay on the trails as much as possible.  we try our best to do no harm.

enjoy your mud hunting.

yeah I backpack and follow the same rules, i didnt have much of a choice. we were skirting a cliff then when it opened it was all trees. it was either backing up along 100m of cliff or running over a tree. my life trumps tree in that case. surprisingly it  just bent over and went right back up. i bought it to get me to obscure places, not ruin them.
thanks for the advice!

Welcome as well. I used to backpack a bunch, but having a kid puts a crimp in it (I wasn't *THAT* serious to haul a baby along), but now that he's getting there, the plans are formulating again :)

I third that one, still replacing parts years after I quit avoiding mud as much as possible :)
