31 x10.5 to 33x10.5
« on: April 13, 2011, 08:20:22 AM »
Last year I had 31x10.5 on my cj8 with 272 gears.I change out my diff for 307 gears.I now have a chance to purchase a set of BF goodrich mt k2
at a real good price 33 x 10.5.The questions is by installing 33 x10.5 put me back to the same as 31x10.5 with 207 gears. Also will my
tires fit without adding a body lift. I have a 2 1/2 lift and a 1/2 inch shackle lift. Also will it kind of look funny with 33 's being 10.5

thanks for your time

The rule of thumb I learned was for ever 1" in diameter you increase you effectively loose 0.1 in your gear ratio.  As for the skinny 33s, lots of people run the 285/75/16s which translate into 33x11, so they will not look terrible

I would test them out and see, but you might need a 1" body lift which is not a problem or you will have to adjust your bump stops.

A 33x10.50 is better on the road (winter too), comparable on most terrains, worse in mud. As far as looks are concerned...(Here I may be a little biased) I think they look really good on modestly lifted jeeps, they give that military jeep type look with narrow tires. Half the time most people won't even notice the difference between them and normal 12.50's.

On a CJ with modest lift I'd think it would be great, its a lighter tire size (less rubber), as well the KM2 is one of the lightest MT tires around. When I go the 35" tires I am buying KM2's again without a doubt.
