Coming back to Calgary

Hey guys,

I am looking at moving back to Calgary and bringing my Jeep with me. I don't know the exact date that I will be moving back yet, but should be in the near future.

I got into wheeling in BC and ride a 97 XJ. 5" lift, and currently on 30's (for the drive home) but have ran 35's on her. I'll be looking at putting 33's on as I find it to be a better fit for the 30/35 combo I have right now until I can put a 8.8 in the rear and D44 in the front.

I understand that Alberta is a lot more bogging and marshy wheeling and not as much technical or rocks. Is there any good bush trails to hit, or do you all just do the bogging thing?

Hells yeah ! Some of us even gots alls our teeth !

Alberta has it's fair share of mud, but most of us are not "mud boggers" and prefer technical trails that have some challenges to go along with spectacular scenery. There are lots of trails for you to check out here in AB. You just have to be willing to do some driving

How sticky are the cops out there for DD your rides?

VEHICLE EQUIPMENT REGULATION - There are a couple sections in there that I'm wondering about and if they strictly inforce them or if they are just there for BS tickets when the cops having a bad day?

EX: Section 64 - (4) A passenger car is not required to have a mudguard.

However the Highway Transportation act referes to our ride as a Multi-purpose passenger vehicle. Is this considered different?

“multi-purpose passenger vehicle” means a vehicle having a designated seating capacity of 10 or less that is constructed either on a truck chassis or with special features for occasional off-road operation, but does not include an air cushion vehicle, an all-terrain vehicle, a golf cart, a low-speed vehicle, a passenger car, a three-wheeled vehicle, a truck or a vehicle imported temporarily for special purposes;

Also from the Vehicle Equipment Regulations:

Section 42 Auxiliary driving lamps or fog lamps - Would this include Hela 500's and the lights I have on the roof of my Jeep?

Section 68 - Door Latches - Doesn't clarify if you can run with no doors? (I'd get a TJ if you guys were allowed. Here you can only run with no doors if the vehicle came from the manufacture doors as an option)


I tried searching for these things but I didn't find anything, just the one post with the Alberta Vehicle Laws and Regulations but not a great deal of discussion.

I drive up and down the highway out to my farm every month, sometimes 4 or 5 times a month.. In all those trips I have lost count at how many times Ive been pulled over and warned to put my flaps back on. Its roughly $50.00 per corner that isnt covered, so I wouldnt press the issue with them. If you have flaps, run them in the city, and take them off on the trail. I have to re-install new ones on mine, as they were stolen. Not worth the trouble or ticket for such a simple fix.

I did a Google search for "hot trannies" but nothing came up about oil coolers  :o

Worrying too much about mpg with a Jeep is similar to worrying about your sister's virginity. An ok thing to be concerned about but...

I've never been pulled over for not having my doors on, as far as I understand the are not part of the safety equipment on a jeep and therefore are not required to be on the jeep.

I made my own set and had them welded on. Just the brackets are all I have left tho! Some dumba$$ kid probaly has them in the back of their lada wondering why they wont fit ;)
