Open run to McLean Creek.  Stocker friendly, thinking of Fisher Trail West and Quirk Ridge Trail.  Must have front and rear tow points and good tires.  Time to finally get out on the trails now that my "issues" are fixed.  Hopefully alot of  the snow has melted and we won't have to deal with ice on East facing slopes - any current trail conditions would be appreciated.

I was out on Fish East last tuesday and it was a mixture of corn kernel snow, and deep sloppy, disgusting bushing eating mud. With the warmth that we have had lately, I would think the snow would be less, but the mud will be more.... There was some pretty fast moving runoff in places as well.
I did a Google search for "hot trannies" but nothing came up about oil coolers  :o

Worrying too much about mpg with a Jeep is similar to worrying about your sister's virginity. An ok thing to be concerned about but...

I should be in for this one, anyone interested in having a second group run some more challenging trails?

I'll come if there's a secondary group tackling harder trails.  Dogs welcome?

Good to see some people are interested in going out.  We can decide the trail once we see who (and what they drive) shows up.  I'm on 31's, locker in the rear and a winch, I generally stay out of the mud if I can and prefer climbs and ridges thus my trail choices.  But hey I'm easy, I will go with the majority vote on trail choice unless it's just a deep mud fest.  Say meet at 09:00 at the McLean store and leave by 09:30.  Bring a lunch, drinks and we can have a fire while we have lunch and enjoy the great weather forecasted for the weekend.

I would really be interested!  I just joined the forum, so I guess there is a need for a short rundown.  I am a complete noob, stock (for now) 2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport, in the Okotoks area.  I have played a little bit in farmers fields to see what the jeep could do and now I am getting hooked.

If people are willing to do the easier trails and babysit me I would even bring snacks for everyone.  I just hope I don't cause too much grief  :-[

I think the Unlimited Sport comes with P255/75R1 7 Goodyear Wrangler SR-A's which I would suspect are not a very aggressive tire for mud.

Based on the trail conditions out at McLean (extreme muddy slop and likely still snow on shaded exposures) stock might not be a good idea.  I would recommend that you be running at least 31" Good MT tires and have recovery points both front and rear.  If you haven't been out on the trails before then maybe  a couple more weeks of drying wouldn't hurt.  As with any type of wheeling trip you can expect that there is a potential and likelihood of damage and the current conditions out at McLean would amplify that risk.

Not my intent to discourage you from getting out and wheeling and enjoying your Jeep but would much rather see you get out when conditions are better.

Just my 2 cents there are better minds than mine out there.

Thanks for the advice.  I am now looking for tires before Friday or maybe I just stay home and cry  :'(

Who knows maybe someone can upgrade me before the weekend, I do just want to play in the mud, I had so much fun my first time.

If you can hitch a ride with someone, until you get better tires, it will give you a taste of what you can expect when you are actually able to get out.

Ask there maybe an empty seat.

I wouldn't be touching Mclean without a winch right now, that combined with the potential damage that can be down due to the current conditions, it might be a good idea to postpone a bit until it dries some more.

If you need to go, the minimum should be 31" with 50-70+ tread MT's, no AT's. That is bare minimum. Like SilverFox said, have good recovery points front and back and the right gear to use them.

The CJA is postponing our runs until it dries up a bit out there.  It is too muddy and the frost is still coming out - rigs will just chew up the trails.

We all want to get out there, but it will be very difficult to tread lightly right now.  That's the stand the CJA members are taking.  We hope other users of the site will consider ding the same.

Are people (Jay Dawg, Maverick, Schroedl) still interested in going out given the reports of nasty mud?  If others are going out I will too.  I would stick to easier, less muddy (hopefully) trails like Fish Creek West and Quirk Ridge. If it was too muddy I would turn back - I hate deep mud.  This would be a "recon" run to check out the conditions and maybe some easy wheelin' if conditions are acceptable.  Bring your dog if you want, and I have a spare seat if needed.  If people want to wait until conditions are drier I'm good with that as well, I have a few ways to entertain myself this weekend.  Post up and let's see your response.

I will not be going because it was posted that the CJA is recommending that everyone keep off the trails for a while so that they do not get ruined.  I really want to get out but I guess it will have to wait.
