Trail ratings/location/lists

does anyone know of a list of trails in the Mclean or waparious area as well as any sort of rating system.  I'd like to get out that way and drive some of the harder/hardest stuff and don't want to spend all day driving down random dirt rodes with no technical driving or obstacles.  Seems like guys on here refer to specific trails when talking about these area's- are these trails marked or mapped anywhere?

I'd settle for one.  What's the hardest most technical trail in the calgary Area?  The trail that you did or heard of that made you add that front locker or those 35's.  What's the trail that you live to do the next year when the snow finally clears...the one with steep climbs, big boulders, creek crossings...or is Calgary just full of mudholes in empty fields?

If you want to get folks to share knowledge about the trail system with you, your best bet will be to get out on the trails with them. I think that you'll find that most members here will be very receptive to showing you where challenging obstacles are - while they're wheeling with you. Come out on some open trail runs, get to know the folks, and you'll be amazed how much you learn about the areas.

Good trails are like good fishing holes. You share with to many people and soon that hole is fished out , overused and then closed down cause of the mess. The best thing to do is join a club get to know a few people do the trails and new to you trails will be discovered.

Maverick - we tend not to discuss trail names on the open forum.  With the number of people we have in Calgary and surrounding areas, our OHV area is quite sensative.  Like the gents said above, come on out with us on a some runs and see what's out there.

It doesn't matter whether or not you openly talk about the trails, they are all available online. They will all be found at one time or another, you can get a map at the General Store at Mclean Creek or a trail map for Waiparous at a any kiosk on the Forestry Trunk Road. Or if your even more google savy you can get a map online of ALL the original trails and their names before all the BS trail closures started, so not talking on this forum about the trails doesn't matter, they're available everywhere. Heck you could just go down to The Map Store and get or order a complete set of topographical seismic maps which will show every cut line ever made out in the bush and they are issued by the government!

Tread Lightly! Principles

Travel Responsibly on land by staying on designated roads, trails and areas. Go over, not around, obstacles to avoid widening the trails. Cross streams only at designated fords. When possible, avoid wet, muddy trails. On water, stay on designated waterways and launch your watercraft in designated areas.
Respect the Rights of Others including private property owners, all recreational trail users, campers and others so they can enjoy their recreational activities undisturbed. Leave gates as you found them. Yield right of way to those passing you or going uphill. On water, respect anglers, swimmers, skiers, boaters, divers and those on or near shore.

Educate Yourself prior to your trip by obtaining travel maps and regulations from public agencies. Plan for your trip, take recreation skills classes and know how to operate your equipment safely.
Avoid Sensitive Areas on land such as meadows, lakeshores, wetlands and streams. Stay on designated routes. This protects wildlife habitats and sensitive soils from damage. Don’t disturb historical, archeological or paleontological sites. On water, avoid operating your watercraft in shallow waters or near shorelines at high speeds.
Do Your Part by modeling appropriate behavior, leaving the area better than you found it, properly disposing of waste, minimizing the use of fire, avoiding the spread of invasive species and repairing degraded areas.
