TJ wobble
« on: May 19, 2011, 07:02:50 PM »
Hi all you Jeep guys. I have been driving a 95 YJ for as couple of years. An opportunity came up to buy a 01 TJ with only 65000 km so I bought it. When I got in this thing, It seemed like the suspension was very loose and the Jeep seemed to wobble from side to side quite badly at any speed. Also, when I come to a stop, I get quite a big lurch backward as it comes to a stop. Could this be bad shocks? There are no wierd noises. I can't see this as being normal. It seems to have a lot of body roll as well. Any suggestions? Thanks

Chris

Some good info here.

Also, sounds dangerous to drive until it gets corrected.

Sounds like the swaybars are disconnected or gone all together. Rear trac bar missing also?? Is the TJ lifed? Real crappy shocks will definatly cause a "bounce" or side to side motion. I''d check all the above...or better yet take it to a Jeep friendly shop and get them to check it out for you.

It's definatley not a "death wobble". It is a stock TJ that has never been offroad. It does feel like it is missing sway bars but that just seems too weird for them to be gone. I think I will try to contact Jay. Does anyone know his email?

The absolute, first thing you should do is get an alignment done.  $100 well spent!
