ZJ lift
« on: September 12, 2011, 02:15:59 PM »
Hey Guys,

So I'm going to lift my ZJ, I'm thinking of doing a 3" budget lift with spacers, do you guys have any suggestions as to where to get gear here? I'll also need new shocks anyway so I may as well get ones that will fit better at the same time.

do some reasearch first.  its probably best to do some research.  (i know thats thrown alot around this site, but its true)

if you are looking at a 3" lift there are a few decent options for you, (i'm guessing cheaper is better)

first, is your jeep a V8 or I6?

if you have an I6, a great option is to run ZJ V8 coils and a 2.5" puck, and throw your front sprngs in the rear. this is called a 'front to rear' swap.. popular on jeeps and i've done a few.  you will need  the coils and spacers, (or another 3" ZJ lift spring, or an XJ lift spring around 4.5") and a set of shocks for 3" of lift.  it would be good to put extended sway bar links on it, but i didn't.  maybe a rear track bar bracket in the rear and redrill the front bracket.  use all stock control bars.  google 'ZJ front to rear swap'  there are hundreds of threads
this is about as cheap as you will get.  rough country has a kit for 400$ and it has lower control arms, IRO has one without control arms too.
do yourself a favour and stay away from those 3" budget boosts in the rear.  you really shouldn't use any type of spacer in the rear.  if you want one of those Ebay special 3" lifts, use the spacer up front, and swap those coils to the rear.  best bang for your buck.

or you can spend the $$$ for a real kit.  eitherway, on that setup, you can run 31s comfortably.

if you have any questions, fire me a PM.  i've done just about everylift on a ZJ you can buy; twice ;)

If you are out at Mclean on the weekend you can take a look at mine, put a nice dent in the pocketbook after you look ;D

I would do the IRO Foundation kit; 3.5" kit with new front coils, nitro shocks, JKS disconnects, sway bar links for the front and back. Get a rear trackbar bracket and re-drill the front. Toss a pair of 3/4" coil spacers int he back and you'll sit just about dead even at 4", lower control arms in the front. Run you about $575 to the door. Its worth it since a BB will cost you $200-$300 and get you 2".

I think I saw you were on Jeepforum, IRO will discount your shipping if you ask and mention that you found them off there.

After looking around for a bit I ended up buying a BDS 3" complete lift kit from Modern.  I was pleasently suprised by the price they were able to offer as it was actually less than it would have cost me to order online and pay the shipping!  Think the total was about $700 including new coils, shocks, sway bar links & track bar relocation brackets.  She rides a bit stiff now but I had 1200lbs of bagged gravel/sand in there the other day and it was loving it!  cheers

I'm looking at doing the 3.5" foundation kit from IRO as well as a few bits.  I think Jay was saying it would be in the neighborhood of about $700 for the kit with DT shocks and JKS disconnects. ;D  Jay will do great for ya ;)
