2001 TJ rust.

I was just wondering if anyone else is having a problem with parts of their newer jeeps rusting. I got the rust protection package when I bought it new (feel like a sucker now!!!). My door handles are completely rusted, the rear window hinges have corroded so badly the paint chipped off, the windsheild hinges are rusting, not to mention the undercoat that I understood from the salesman prevented rust (nice try!!). Now I realise that rock chips and what not can lead to rust, and I do take good care of it but when I took it into the NW dealer where I bought it the service guy told me that this kind of thing was to be expected and that I should be blowing all the water out of cracks with an air compressor everytime I wash it. He told me "I" could actually remove the parts and paint them myself      I just about lost my mind. The reason I bought a new jeep was for the warranty, but so far everytime I have a problem they tell me it's not covered and I end up fixing it myself. DOUBLE MAD      Sorry I'll stop now. Can't sleep now.

both of my handles were rusted when I bought the jeep. THe back window hinges had no paint left. These two spots are notorious for cheap paint. get some Matte black and fixer up.

I just replaced all of the hinges on my TJ with stainless.  I was completely amazed at the rust behind the windsheild hinges and the rear tub hinges.  If your interested in keeping your TJ I would recommend pulling them and painting behind them.  It looks like the jeep is painted after the hinges are installed and water and road stuff creeps behind them.  Just as bad are the backing plates the hinges bolt into.  Yo'll need an impact socket to remove the friggin screws though...they get fused to the hinges.

My jeep is stored inside, it is cleaned and waxed often...
