So as my "pretty little thing called love" got home from work today, she drove past my in black Betty (my 99 xj), and all I could here was a sound that made me cringe.

Rattle rattle rattle....

I took the old girl (jeep) into my buddies garage to have a little look see, and after a little advice from immortal (thank you trev), I found the passenger side u joint was nfg.

So I start pulling everything off, and low and behold, I'm having one hell of a time getting the brake pads out of the caliper.

Well it would appear that captain fantastic (that's the idiot that owned the jeep before me), decided to silicone the brake pads to the caliper....  Ok then.

Any hoo, while I'm going to have the turny bit and the metal thingy off the knuckle, is there anything else I should be replacing while she's (once again the jeep), up on the stands?

Anti-seize on all threaded bits, and on the backside of the unit-bearing (big metal bit with the lugs).

Helps in removing in the future. Shame about Capt Fantastic. My truck has the same issues, always finding "creative fixes".

Got the unit bearing off, used the steering wheel trick for that, replaced the u joint, anti seized the crap outta everything.

Went to put the new rotors and pads on and the lower caliper bolt thread in the knuckle is stripped right out.  Picked up a helicoil kit today and gonna get back at her tomorrow.

Gotta love jeeps.....
