MJ budget build
« on: September 21, 2011, 08:17:07 AM »
First of all, I'm new to the forum. Some of you know me already, my dad's specialk on the forums. We recently got a white '89 Jeep MJ...

Right now it needs quite a bit of work, fixing it up will be our winter project. More information to come soon...

P.S. I'll also be coming out to the meeting this evening, so I'll be meeting some of you later.

Why does your Jeep say Toyota on it?

welcome to the mj club.

And Aarons picture caption states it perfectly...

"Not all there"

:D

Welcome to the club Loren :D Just keep your dad away from that rear axle!
I did a Google search for "hot trannies" but nothing came up about oil coolers  :o

Worrying too much about mpg with a Jeep is similar to worrying about your sister's virginity. An ok thing to be concerned about but...

Hello again, I finally have an update! Since the first post we've made some progress, the carpet on the inside was stripped out so we could see what the floorpan looked like. It's a little rusty, I think the right term is "Flinstoning it".

It's not as bad on the other side, so only the driver side floorpan will be replaced. Next the plastic siding stuff and other glued-on things came off, as well as the pin-striping.

Then we attempted to take of the fender flares. Most of the bolts had rusted and refused to come off, so we got out the Sawzall and cut 'em off. The other side just kinda broke off though...

We're going to do a 4L high output engine swap, so we went out and picked that up soon after. We cleaned it up and painted it (which I unfortunately don't have pictures of right now, but will post soon), here's the Before picture...

I like where you're going with this, Lorne. Is Ron listening? No? Okay...then I can say this. MJ's are pretty freakin' cool!

if you have that engine out and on a stand it might save you some time and effort down the road by changing the rear main seal, oil pan gasket, and valve cover gasket. maybe even a thermostat and gasket just to make sure. its so much easier on a stand. also have those parts off would give you a good look inside and make sure everything looks proper.
looks good so far. i wish i could have done this sort of thing when i was your age ;)

Those are definitely the wisest words ever uttered by a pookapotamus.
