Orange smelling stuff, sold at Canadian Tire called Parts cleaner... Dead serious :) Its supposedly non volatile and is not varsol or mineral spirits.. It was water soluble I seem to remember as well.
I did a Google search for "hot trannies" but nothing came up about oil coolers  :o

Worrying too much about mpg with a Jeep is similar to worrying about your sister's virginity. An ok thing to be concerned about but...

i wash my junk with irish spring.

the jeep gets cleaned with the purple bottle degreaser from CT, and like Simon said, the orange smelling stuff. There are different grades, various places have the industrial orange cleaner which is also natural and drain friendly supposedly.

Good old varsol. I buy it in 4l jugs from CT and dump it right in. Nothing else works as well, smells as bad, is as volatile and dries out your hands quite like it.

If you like to smoke  and don't like wear gloves while washing your parts then check out that fruity stuff.

Awesome!

What I didnt mention is that unlike Steve, I occasionally also use varsol on my junk. Nothing like that squeaky clean feeling.

Thanks guys, PA has the 5 gallon washers on for 50 bucks this month (thats 1/2 price), I'm gonna go check them out.
I have 2 tandem axle trailers that are due for bearing maintenance and the washer should pay for itself on that job alone.

Just a tip for that job. I usually don't go through the work of cleaning the bearings in a parts washer. I have found that either the bearing grease is in relatively good shape and I just repack them with new grease which pushes out the old grease or the old grease is contaminated with water/dirt and in which case the bearings are almost always pitted and need replacing anyway.

90% of bearing work can be done with rags and brake clean. Think about how much you will use your parts washer as I find mine takes up a fair bit of room in my already crowded garage and only gets used occasionally.

I just get the boys drink Labbatt 50 and pee in the parts washer when they come over...

It's seems to work well... except for the smell
