How do you de-pressurize fuel system without running the engine?

2005 TJ 4.0L.
I want to drop the fuel tank but have to de-pressurize first.
No tranny installed at the moment so pulling the relay and running the engine until out of fuel is out of the question.

Any other methods to do this? I don't particularly like the idea of disconnecting the fuel line and having a good ole face wash with gas, been there, did that and and didn't enjoy it  :'(

You can always blow a hole in your fuel line with a torch.... Thats a fun way of doing it.

what is the issue with starting it with the relay removed with no tranny installed?

When I did mine the other weekend it was a second and a half and it was good.

If it's anything like my old dodge, there is a schraeder valve under a cap in the fuel line.  Use something like a small screwdriver and a rag and it should relieve the pressure.

But try the torch way, it's sounds way more fun :o

Isn't there pressure guage fitting (schraeder) on your fuel rail? On my XJ it has a green cap. If there is do as Adrian just said --- ^

It will relieve the pressure, but you will still have a fuel line full of fuel. Best way that I found to disconnect the fuel line without bathing in gas was to put a rag over the joint where you are seperating the fuel line.
I am guessing that you will be lying on your back, and seperating the line right by the tank?

Scratch the valve, there is none. Probably saved Jeep .02 per vehicle.

I guess it's gonna get messy :'(
After I get the pressure relieved, all I have to do is deal with removing the tank while it's half full. Dammit Jeep, why did you have to make it impossible to syphon the gas out?
And yes, I'll be on my back doing the fuel lines.

After you depressurize and you go to disconnect the fuel line, make sure you push down the plastic clip, dont try to remove it, you will break it.
I learned it the hard way.

You just simply push down, and pull.

It isn't impossible to syphon, just a pain in the arse. I was able to do it with a garden hose. You have to get it in the right spot.
