Jeep GC to Commander?

So I have a friend, he bought an 06 WK, and has had a couple issues in the past.  Just this week he did not check the PS fluid in the grand and fried the pump.  After having a DRAMA QUEEN CRY SESSION, he decided he is selling the Grand and buying a Commander.  Am I not correct in assuming that the WK and XK are basically the same vehicular device?  Is this not Ludicrous???  He is the IMPULSE BUY kind of person, especially on cars.  the problems he has had have been most likely his doing like the PS, But not severe in any way.  I am trying to get him to save for a house and save money for his new life with his new wife.  How can he do this when he keeps trading in vehicles every year or 2?  Looking for advice, anyone been through something similar??

From what I understand, aside from looks they are the same vehicle.

Also, I got a buddy too who despite being older then me, can't seem to make good decisions in life.  Being in his early thirties and was finally able to buy his first car.  Just seems to not grasp what 99% of people would deem as the correct answer to basic life questions.

You can beat your head against the wall as long as you wish, but at the end of the day, people are entitled to their own stupid decisions.

The commander is a larger body on the same frame and similar drivetrain. The commander is a boat so if he had a hemi in the grand its gonna feel like a 3.7 in the commander. I drove one for the hell of it before I bought my grand and it was a slug for sure. It sure does serve its purpose as you have way more room in the back too.

I have a commander and they are quite a bit different but alot alike too

I prefer the commander's size and drivability
