Spark plug wires(tried to search)
« on: November 11, 2011, 03:19:56 PM »
For a 1999 Jeep TJ Sport 4.0l

Was just going to change the plugs but of course the wires were shot as well >:(.
1-5-3-6-2-4 This is how I have them set up from the distributor(looking from the passenger side if the dis was a clock) -
@11 o'clock goes to cylinder 1(closest to firewall)
@1 o'clock goes to cylinder 6
@3 o'clock goes to cylinder 2
@5 o'clock goes to cylinder 4
@7 o'clock goes to cylinder 5
@9 o'clock goes to cylinder 3

I did not touch the distributor, and its still miss firing. Any suggestions
This may make it easier http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/80/heepdist.jpg/ I cant insert the image for some reason

I was Jeepless since 2006. So I had to make a tough decision; the wife, or get a Jeep. So glad to be a Jeep owner again! I still miss my FSJ the most

Thanks Frenchy. Are you using the same order for the cylinders as I found? 1-5-3-6-2-4 with one being closest to the firewall?

Look at the pic, #3 is closest to the firewall.
I can see that #3 labelled on the distributor is closest to the fire wall.
So from the distributor(as per Frenchys picture -
#3 goes to cylinder #6(closest to firewall)
#6 goes to cylinder #5
#5 goes to cylinder #4
#2 goes to cylinder #3
#1 goes to cylinder #2
#4 goes to cylinder #1

This also matches up with the length of the cables. Now it just wont turnover where as whatever I had before would just misfire

Think about why #1 is labelled #1

Why would #2 be labelled #2?

See its the wires that have screwed me up. The ones labelled #3 and 4 are the longest(and I read thats how they were supposed to match - longest outaside, med for 2 and 5 and short for 3 and 4)
. Sorry for the hassle guys, and thanks Frenchy for your assistance

OK, it's arts & crafts time  ;D

Right click my picture above and select "print".
Cut it out nicely so that it fits on your motor mount right beside the distributor.

Pull all the wires..

Plug a wire into the front most spark plug (#1), the other end of that wire needs to be plugged into the  #1 location on the picture.

Plug a wire into the second from the front spark plug (#2), the other end of that wire needs to be plugged into the 2 location on the picture right beside your distributor.

carry on with the 3rd from front, 4th, etc...
Coil wire goes to the center plug on distributor.
