Any experience with Ultra Wheels?
« on: November 27, 2011, 08:14:16 PM »
Just ordered a set of 33x12.5x15 Duratracs on Ultra type 164s black in flavor off of tirerack. Any one have experience with these? hope I dont regret it. I went with 15x8s... any good reason to change to 15x10? Never run a 10" wide rim before.

The original owner of my Ford Ranger had a set of Ultra Wheels mounted when I bought it off of him. They were the turbine style that was oh so popular in the nineties. They were true with no rust and looked great for being over ten years old. I sold them to a guy who put them on his Jeep(same bolt pattern), and they still look decent. The matte black rims you purchased look better than the Soft 8's that most people purchase. I think you'll be pleased.

I've always matched 12.5" wide tires to 8" rims for the bead retention and to protect the rim with the bulge created. Stick with the 8" wide.

I had Type 50's on my 98.  Great wheels.  Easy to clean - served the purpose.

Tirerack sucks donk... wont mount a 12.5 on a 8" rim so shipping seperately.

If they wouldn't install them for me they wouldn't be shipping them to me. Period.

Have a set of Ultra Lightening on our dodge diesel. I dislike them because of the size and backspacing, but they still look really good, when they are clean.....4 years old. No corrosion to speak of

Mount and balance wont cost me the 450 Im saving from not buying here. Plus there aint a shop in town who has the size in stock, good year says a month, maybe more before the next run in that size.

They ship UPS, but the duty, tax and brokerage fees ($30) are paid direct to Tirerack when you buy the tires.  They have a great setup.  It is very hard to beat their pricing as well even with the shipping.

All still good? Thinking of having tires shipped down for the new Dakota. Need rims as its impossible to find studded winter tires for an 18" rim.

Did you get the duratracs studded?
