Idle drops to 200 or so after gas/acceleration
« on: December 01, 2011, 11:03:36 PM »
2000 Jeep TJ 2.5 l.  I just replaced the motor (used one from wrecker) as the previous owner blew a head gasket and cylinder wall was trashed beyond repair.  New motor is great and drives well.

Only issue is that most of the time after hitting the accelerator while parked or driving it will drop down to 200 or so rpms, almost stall and then come right back up.

I've been told to check for vacuum leaks.  What's the best way to check for vacuum leaks?

What else might it be?

Can of brake clean or carb clean. Spray it at vacuum lines and if the idle changes then you probably have found your leak.

I would say it sounds like a TPS.

Funnel and hose works too to listen for the leak.
