So I'm driving down 1st Ave in Airdrie around 2 o'clock when a burgundy super duty flies past me and loses control over the tracks. He then takes out a pole, a park bench and then continues through the parking lot into a few more cars and then crashes through the side of a strip mall and right inside. He just missed hitting a bakery full of people but luckily there was noone working in the bay he hit.
I pull into the parking lot and jump out of my truck and smoke starts pouring out of the side of the building. I hear the truck gunning the engine and trying to free himself inside. Myself and three other guys took turns going inside trying to free this guy as we figured it was a medical emergency. After 5 or 6 tries we couldn't go in anymore because of the smoke and RCMP and fire had arrived. They tried to get him to stop and get out but he just kept ramming his truck trying to get out.
Eventually they all came out and went around the back of the building where he made his own door ramming his truck through the back of the building. With guns drawn, the RCMP removed him from the truck and took him into custody. He was not seriously hurt but one of us could have been if he got that truck free while we were in the smoke.
I will never stop trying to help people but it's guys like this that make you think twice about risking your life to save another.
I really hope they throw the book at this guy as it was a miracle noone was killed.
