It's coming into summer again and you know what that means, GOING TOPLESS for me and the Jeep.  anyone got any clue as to how i could rig up a hardtop hoist and storage system on the roof of my garage (12ft cielings i think)

thanx!

also i think my vin is bad.  i have a 258 in my jeep, but when i got the vin decoded, it said i only had a 232.  any ideas???

and hard top hoist. I've seen a few good'uns. Best was a small electic winch mounted on the side of the garage. Pully system going to a sling or sorts. Worked great.

'77 came stock with:
 232 / T-150 3 speed or TH400 auto tranny
OR
 258 / T-18A 4 speed

Yours probably rolled out of the factory with the 232, and has since been upgraded.

For storage for mine I built a frame on wheels to stand it up and roll it against the wall and put a 2x4 under to lift the wheels to stop it from rolling.  Only problem I ran into is I hadd to add something to stop it from sliding off the frame.  Its a bit tricky by yourself but once done its nice.

weird.   when i pulled the air cleaner lid off and cleaned all of the grime and crap off of it, it said 258, but i have a 3 spd.  my grampa said that it had never been changed around, everything was stock when he got it, and that's from the factory.

weird.

thanx sort, but i'm looking for something to hang it from the rafters with.

I just noticed your 'arctic fox' edition comments... That's interesting, and a sweet find !!

Not exactly sure how these things worked back then, but it maybe rolled out of Jeeps factory with the 232 (VIN stamped), then off to another builder/customizer who did up the axles (from the stock 20/30), engine, paint or decals, etc..

HAHA, oh were you serious?

that's probably very much what happened, and i'm going through records that my grampa has of this rebuild... not much here, except a build list from AMC that states what he wanted...  258 i-6 with a 3 spd.   couple more inches of clearance, dana 44s (althought i put the 30/20 back on to allieviate bad fuel economy (they're just that much lighter)).   can't make out who did the build, there's an oil or coffee or something stain on it  , looks like the address is

Wil------and Jeep Parts and Customizing
562 South Reynolds Road, Toledo, OH 43615

and i can kinda figure that the buisness is "Willys Kaiser-Overland Jeep parts and Customizing"

neat!

as soon as i get my scanner working, i'll post this sheet.

SCORE!!!!

You could use a cheap ATV winch instead of a hand crank

i'm trying to keep this whold project under 50 buxx.
