Bikini Header? (Screws or Rivets)
« on: April 24, 2006, 05:41:50 PM »
Contemplating using rivets instead of screws for my drill type bikini header.  Only drawback I can think of is that if the rivet ever comes loose and I have to drill it out, the piece on the back will remain in the windshield frame and rattle (post a way to get them out without drilling a huge hole in the windshield frame and I'll definitely go with rivets).  On the other hand I don't like the look of screws.  Give me your thoughts, header is getting installed Thursday or Friday April 27 or 28 this week.  Need help deciding.

Thanks.

Sean

i had used sheet metal screws before and they loosened off and made the frame look like crap.
i ended up with a new frame because a moose hit me so this time around i did it different. i drilled bigger holes and inserted rivnuts. they work great and i used some nice cadmium plated screws from the hangar here at work and they work and look better.....havent moved in 4 years now and its on year round(no hard top)

Where would I find said "rivnuts" and are they similar to the nutserts that mopar uses for the factory side steps?

I've never heard of rivnuts, But I used to get nutserts from Acklands, They are probably the same thing.

Or try that bolt store just east of the Silver dollar on 42 ave SE, can't think of the name right now. Greggs would be another option.
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.
