ABS, ESP, Vehicle with squigly lines below it...
« on: January 30, 2012, 07:26:29 AM »
Hey all,

I have so many lights on my dash it looks like a Christmas tree. The ABS, ESP, and the symbol of a vehicle with squigly lines keep coming on. Sometimes this is in slippery conditions where the wheel(s) are spinning. However, this is also occuring in dry conditions without any wheel slippage and in both cases these lights often stay on for a period of time even after restarting the engine. Also,as I think it is supposed to, when the vehicle symbol with squigly lines comes on and there is tire slippage I lose almost all of my power. But, again this is also happening on occassion in dry conditions without tire slippage. So, I think I may have some issues.

Any advice is much appreciated.

As I understand it it is possible to 'disabble' some of this stuff (I will have to look at my manual). Also, I have heard you can buy an aftermarket chip to 'truly' turn of some of this stuff.

Also, I have not had time to hook-up my code reader yet...

Thanks,

Jeff

Do you have a lift installed?

The abs/esp light come on when there is a problem in the system. If you have a lift installed make sure that all the wires are not pled tight. Mine come on when you get it in the right condition, I'm not sure witch one it is but it goes away with a restart so I'm not too worried.  The pictures of the vechicles with squiggle line says traction control is on. You got a wheel slipping and it's trying to stop that. It cuts eng power if it can't control the wheel spinning, but usually it applies the brakes to the affected wheel.

There is a steering wheel dance that can turn the traction control off completely but not abs/esp.

If you got the traction light coming on in turns, going over bump, and things like that, as well as having a lift. It means that the jeep needs an aligment. It may drive straight and no pulling but the sensors in the steering system are disagreeing with each other.  Do a search for traction control disable, there are lots people who have done this. Lots of info out there on the web.

Bit of info in this thread.  I don't know how much different it is from 2007 to 2008 though.

I know this only partially turns it off, but you can also use something like the ProCal to turn it off entirely if that's what you want.

It is also common that the steering wheel hasn't been centered 100% and that can cause it to go off.  From what I have read anyway.
