Electronic Sway Bar Disconnect (2007 Rubicon)
« on: January 30, 2012, 07:31:26 AM »
Hey all,

When my 2007 JKU Ribicon was stock and I tried to disconnect my sway bar (electronic) is sometimes would be tempermental and I had to find really level ground to do so (but, it eventually worked). However, now that I have a lift (2.5" OME) I can not get it to disengae no matter how level the ground is (the light just keeps flashing which according to the manual means it is in between disengaging). Of course I do not want to drive it somewhere in the midst of disengaging. So, I hit the switch again to turn the light off and wheel with the sway bar connected as far as I can tell.

So, any advice to get this system to work again would be appreciated.

I have also heard that many people experience similar issues with the electronic sway bar disconnect on the JK Rubicons.

Thanks,

Jeff

Spinalguy,

Thanks for the links. I did do some searching and found similar stuff. Everythying essentially seems to state that this system is not the greatest and needs to be replaced with a new system from the dealership to get to work again or to replace it with something else entirely.

I was hoping someone on this forum might know something different.

I guess I will get someone I know to look at it to see if it is an easy fix like wheel aligment or a broken bolt like in some of these links or if it may be something bigger and decide what to do from there.

Thanks again,

Jeff

Most of the people I know with an '07 had the connector fry out long ago and have since switched to the manual disconnect.

Jeepjones,

Do you know of a manual system that you would recommend? I would like one that is as easy to disengae and engage as possible (like anyone would I guess). I have seen some as recently as this past weekend that were difficult to do (have to be on very level ground or jump up and down to get to work). Even had to do a makeshift repair to one this past weekend that was disconnected but was interfering with the turning of the wheels.

Thanks,

Jeff

This is the best and simplest one that I know of.

A close friend of mine said the same thing after being told by the "stealership" it was going to cost $2500 to replace the stock wiring harness, seeing how the "can't" get just the sealed connector that fried without getting the entire harness.

Exactly my thoughts based on research at stealerships...

Is it difficult to install?

Thanks again,

Jeff

I have an 07 JKU and went with the Rubicon Express discos... I've been really happy with them.
Current project:

This is the best and simplest one that I know of.
This really does seem like a good fix. Its what I'm going to do.
Here is my story in short form.  In December 2011.After boosting my 08 JKU, I put my tow strap away on my winch plate. I got in and my sway bar light was flashing.  I removed the strap, but couldn't get the light to go out. I had it in to Modern Motors and they said the motor was done. A new one was $2200. I decided I didn't need it fixed for now. The next day at work it wouldn't start. I boosted it, it didn't take a charge, then it wouldn't recognize my FOB, nothing worked. I tried a bunch of things.
Fast foreword to February 6 2012, I take the JK to Renfrew Chrysler. They tell me my ASBS MODULE is water logged and for $3oo9.90 they can fix it. I tell them I don't have $3000. and every other Wrangler runs with out this why can't mine. So they unplug it and now its drivable. But they don't recommend driving with it disconnected and that I can't switch to a manuel disconnect because of the  ASBS / RUBICON system.  What a bunch of B.S.
mud is in my blood

If your problem is limited to the swaybar disconnect motor and/or system, there is an easy fix that the dealership will probably not tell you about. Based on your description, it sounds as if an issue with the disconnect motor system is causing your computer to have issues. If you want to you can buy an AEV Pro-Cal unit from Stan at Northridge for $165.

This will allow you to flash your computer os that it ignores any signals from the electronic swaybar module, and you will not get any flashing idiot lights or error codes. No guarantees that this will solve your issue...but it may be worth a shot.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

I'm sold on the Currie ANTIROCK system... it's simple,  strong and keeps your Jeep real stable off-road
