Neither axle is cheap off the shelf. If you are going to buy a new 44, do yourself a favour and do not buy the stock MOPAR one. The tubes are a smaller diameter (and thus weaker) than other bolt-into-your-JK 44's out there (Currie or Dynatrac). The stock MOPAR 44 isn't a bad axle or anything....it's just not as strong as the other JK 44's on the market.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

If even entertaining the idea of a prorock 44, you should just go with a currie 60 for the jk. Not a lot more money, but definately a lot more peice of mind.

The 44 is an inbetween step for a lot of people and not one that should be usually considered when buying crate axles. When building your own, its entirely different. When spending upwards of 6k its something you only want to do once.

everyone under estimates the 30 ..  the thing is exactly a 44  just a different center section .. the weakest point is the carrier . change that to a locker with 30 spline instead of the 27 spline   and u just got your self a diff thats pretty myuch a dana 44   only thing is u     i beleive the largest gear set u can put in the 30 is 4.88's  and the dana 44 you can go to 5.38's

but once ur sitting on 30 spline chromo shafts yours laughing

You can actually get 5.38's for the 30, though there is only one company making them. Otherwise you can get 5.13's from almost anyone.
