Hitch at Uhaul
« on: February 18, 2012, 09:25:46 PM »
Had a hitch on my tj installed at Uhaul today, when I got home and looked at what they did, 2 of the bolts were finger loose, and the one on the bottom was half way out ( over top of the exhaust pipe )

went back and the owner said the guy who installed the hitch was an experianced mechanic, I asked how he made such a rookie mistake, he said he would take it back into shop and tighten the bolts, I just left and tightened them myself,

Just a heads up, U haul on barlow trail N.E.

Unfortunately you rarely find good mechanics doing hitch installs.

Had a hitch, 7pin plug and tranny cooler put on our new(to us) 2008 Dakota as part of the purchase. Unfortunately Cochrane Dodge subbed to work out to a local hitch shop. Hitch has slotted holes in it by design but they didn't use washers under the heads of the bolts, tranny cooler leaks and the 7 pin plug doesn't have the ground wire hooked up. Yeesh!

Unreal, I just wonder how many hitches get installed with out people checking the bolts, I don't think a single one of my friends would let anyone else work on their own car, and I'm starting to feel that way myself, thought 180 bucks for a hitch installed was a good price, should have done it myself, had to go back over 3 of 4 bolts anyway.

Just goes to show that it's a good idea to always check over any work done, disregarding your experience level.  You might find something fairly big that was missed.

I had a hitch installed at the same location. Took two days to get the work done when it was initially booked in for a 1hr appointment. The install was suppose to be done at the Blackfoot location, got a call from the manager saying the installer couldnt get it to work and it had to be sent to Barlow for the install  For some reasom they were in the back seat and got grease all over  my back and front seats. When i picked up my jeep and showed them the grease. They said "wasnt from us". They also installed a 4pin wiring harness with a 7pin plug as per my request  instead of mounting the plug properly inside or outside the vehicle, about 4 ft of wiring was laying loose in the tub . Ended up ripping the wiring apart and doing it properly myself  Would not recommend to anyone, go somewhere else!

Last time Canadian Tire put wheels on my car(about 8 months ago) they left one tire loose. Fortunately it was SOOOO loose that I realized it right away didn't even get out of the parking lot so no damage was done.

I've seen guys get fired for that......

I was at Walmart a few weeks ago and they had a sign saying they were hiring auto technicians and the starting wage was "up to" $12.00/hr.
I wonder how much experience you need to get the "top" starting wage of $12.00?

And yet we wonder why you get such crappy service at these places?
At a real repair shop or dealer you at least get somebody that WANTS to be a technician and not a 16 yr/old punk looking for fridays night booze money.

Went to walmart to see if they could mount and balance my 33's.

The guy there tried to lift the tires and almost passed out, he couldnt even get one out of the back. Then he told me I had to go to the truck stop to get them done since they were too big and heavy and would break any tire machine at a place like Kal Tire or Fountain :o

Then the retards at The Hitch Shop who broke every single bolt when they tried to install a hitch on my old ZJ, they said it was my fault for not maintaining the bolts. They also forgot to put the bumper cover on properly, it then fell halfway off on Anderson. I know for sure they lost 2 installs becuase of it since the two people in the store when I was reaming them out left without booking theirs.

Exactly how they mounted mine, I was not impressed!!!
