Hey
How do I tell what the gear ratio is for the differentials on a TJ.  Is there any way of looking at the differential or transfer case and telling.  I am wondering because when I buy my next jeep I want it to come with ratios that can handle 33's or 35's

my 4.0L manual tranny is geared at 3.07.  Most are 3.73. Four Bangers are 4.10's

gear to preference and needs. Regardless of what you TJ has out of the box, you'll want to regear if you are rollin on 35's.

tHERE IS A TAG ON THE DIFF COVER THAT WILL TELL YOU WHAT THE RATIO IS...OR YOU CAN GIVE THE DEALERSHIP YOUR VIN AND THEY CAN TELL YOU.

most TJ's with the 4.0L came with 3:07's unless you had the big tire package...then they would be 3:55's or 3:73's if you are lucky enough.

Hmmm...how can you tell my daughter was playing with the keyboard?

I just regeared my XJ from 4.10s to 5.38s. I'm running 36" tires and I can tell you that even with the 6cyl, 4.10s and 36s sucked big time. I never got into OD on the highway and anytime my speed dropped below 80KM/h the tranny downshifted to 2nd.

So even if you bought a Rubicon, which is the only way to get a 6cyl engine and 4.10s, you will still need to regear.
