Rescue Needed
« on: March 26, 2012, 08:40:54 AM »
I have a Jeep Patriot stuck in the North Ghost River Wilderness Area about a km past marker 40 across 3 creek crossings.  It got submerged in a deep area of the creek and has extensive water damage, so the chance of getting it running is probably slim.  Someone was able to yank it out of the creek, but it is still sitting there.  I've contacted multiple towing companies, but nobody is willing or able to get in there and tow it out.  If anyone is willing to help or knows someone I can contact please let me know ASAP.  Please PM me or call me at 780-690-2365.

Action Transport Services in Calgary or Big Hill Towing in cochrane. Either way, buy some lube.

Water damage is covered by comprehensive insurance so the tow should be covered by insurance. There is only one hill that requires fourwheel drive as well as a couple of creek crossings. There is a turn around spot for a car trailer at the top or two wheel drive tow truck at the top if the hill before you drop down into the ghost valley. Other wise it would be a fairly easy rescue for a gaggle of jeeps.
Are there tow hooks?
Can you tow it out on the strap and not damage the cvt transmission?
Would there be a donation to the trail fund for the rescue?

Fraser and Andy have made some very good suggestions. I think that the only thing that was not mentioned so far is that that section of trail is only open to 4X4's until March 31st. Whatever you're going to do to recover the vehicle (or whomever is going to help you out), you probably want to do it sooner rather than later. SRD's opinion of the issue will probably take a rapid turn for the worse if it's left out there once the status of that trail changes on Sunday.

I hope that you can get this resolved without it being too painful for you.

If it's still out there come Saturday I might be able to head out.  I've never been out that way so would only go with someone that knows the area well.

It does have tow hooks front and back.  I've got 2 guys (one from Chanda Auto) who are going to help me out.  Thanks so much for all the quick reply's.  Any more advice would be greatly appreciated.  And yes I am willing to reimburse/donate whatever it takes to get it out of there ASAP.

We got the Patriot towed out.  Big thanks to Jay from Chanda Auto.  He took the whole day to help me out and didn't even want anything in return.  You guys seem to have an awesome community on this forum.  If there's anyway I can give back to the Jeep Association, let me know.

Next time you see some garbage someone's dumped, take the time to grab it and pack it out. Next time you see someone broken on the trail stop and lend a hand. Next time you see a kid down the street who's new to wheeling say hi and invite him/her out.

We meet every third Wednesday of the month, feel free to stop by and say hello!

I can't say that this is a surprise to me. Thank you Jay.

Victord - vanatagetes pretty much covered it. In general, all that we ask is that you "pay it forward" when you get a chance...and if you think that we'd be a good fit for you, then by all means start coming out to meetings. The only thing I'll suggest is that some of the club runs might be a little hard on the bodywork of you Patriot.

Club runs are hard on JK, YJ, TJ and XJ body work too, I'm guessing if he's dunking it far enough to kill an engine he's ok with some pin striping too.

Club members are going to be the hardest on your patriot, although the cherokee guys will love you because there will be someone else to make fun of! :D

Yup. We can't always make fun of the guy that needed his TJ rescued inside Calgary city limits.  ;)

Oh man my jeep was beyond stuck. When there's a xjack, two jeeps, a snatch block and you're still sinking the winch vehicle it was a gooder. After having to use that much force and leverage made me feel much better about Kyle and I not being able to get it out with a strap!  :o

Basically, if we don't make fun of you we don't like you. Or we really hate you. One or the other...
