Where to buy HVAC surplus stuff in Calgary?
« on: April 04, 2012, 08:07:31 PM »
I'm looking for a place that sells HVAC surplus parts. Specifically, I want a 115 V furnace blower fan and squirrel cage to hack into a garage exhaust setup because I'm sick of having black snot after a welding night.

Shockingly, anything on Kijiji is usually overpriced garbage, and I'm not really interested in buying new.

Any ideas?

He may know :)
I did a Google search for "hot trannies" but nothing came up about oil coolers  :o

Worrying too much about mpg with a Jeep is similar to worrying about your sister's virginity. An ok thing to be concerned about but...

Simon's right. There's a plumber here on the board that also installs the occasional pedestal fan that can help you out with this.

Pro-tip: He will probably accept payment in beer, cigars, or XJ parts.

Yeah, I've thought about this, but my welding table is on wheels, so it wouldn't really work in my case. I think it's a really neat idea for a static welding bench, though.

I haven't been there in awhile, but I don't remember seeing parts like this last time I wandered around HFH. I'll check it out.

Perhaps PM wsquared this summer. Apparently he may have some parts for sale for a system that is too expensive to repair. Also, should you ever need a plumber, immortals your man.

Hey Simon,
My TV crapped out on me. I need you to repair it. Willing to pay you in pocket lint, and a bucket full of sarcasm.

Hey, man, you can be as snarky as you want here, but I'm not paying $150 for a blower that's advertised as "nearly new!!!!111" but hasn't actually been nearly new since 2005. I'm also not really interested in throwing a couple hundred bucks at an actually new blower for my garage when a throw-away from a scrapped furnace would do just fine. I can't speak for you, but I certainly can't afford to waste money like that even if I was willing.

But, I appreciate your advice about the place on 12th. I will look into it and also contact some furnace replacement operations to see if they're willing to sell parts from the furnaces that they replace.

So a used fan for half price is seriously overpriced?  Sounds like you want a new fan for dirt cheap/free.  The way I see it is kijiji crap and used crap from a surplus store is still going to be a gamble, if you don't want the gamble stop complaining and go buy new.

You can't really get mad at Trevor for getting upset either.  He's a nice guy but I'm sure he's pretty busy and doesn't really want to spend half a day at a strangers garage for $15 of lucky lager.
