Mclean creek?

Hey guys I am new to this forum,

I have a stock 2001 TJ 4.0L that I plan on lifting and putting some 31's on, only a small lift 2.5".

Anywho for right now it is stock and I was thinking about doing some light wheelin to see if stock is any good at all, a friend and I were going to check out Mclean creek next week, but I saw on here that it's closed? Is it very strictly closed or can you still do some light off-roading? Is there a gate or something? We aren't going to tear up trails or anything, we just want to go "off-the-road" LOL never done this before, going to avoid any mud I can. Anyway thanks for any info.

Or- do you guys have a better idea where my friend and I can go with some stock TJ's next week?

Unless a gravel road will count as off-road for you, McLean won't have much to offer you until it opens - I think that's May 1st.

At this time of year, I'd suggest the Ghost/Waiparous area.

Is it the highway that goes to Mclean creek that is closed or is it just Mclean creek itself? Would I be able to get to Mclean creek next week? Have you gone to Indian graves, would that be gated up as well? I phoned them and they say their closed but I am wondering if I could still just get there? I live south of Calgary so that would be faster for me, Waiparous would be almost three hour drive from where I am, so if there are closer options....

Indian Graves is permanently closed to trucks (and Jeeps). 

You can drive out to the McLean Creek area, but all of the trails are closed (gated) at this time of year.

If Waiparous is a three hour drive, you must be a long way south. Okotoks to Waiparous is 1:45.

w squared- you're right, its not that long at all. Waiparous it is then. I had "avoid highways" on and it took longer. 2 hours isn't that bad. Thanks for your help guys, I even found a gps map for the waiparous area and put it on my garmin so I won't get lost, if you guys haven't found this yet it's right here:

Wiaparous isn't that bad. I like it.  And if you hit up Margaret lake in the summer great fishing. At least it used to be when I was a kid. It's gorgeous scenery too. BUT with that said McLean is very fun, can't wait to get out there (when it opens)

first time out went pretty well, two little stock jeeps and neither of us got stuck and we didn't hold back anywhere, I was quite impressed with my little Jeep. However, many hits on the back bumper/trailer hitch so I am thinking the lift has to come before the next run. I want some decent tires with about 2.5" lift, where did you guys get your lifts from, where has the best prices in town? Thanks guys

Depends on what you want. A 2" budget boost, coil spacers, will probably run about $300 with shocks.

Northridge4x4.ca has a whole bunch of lifts and Stan is great to deal with.

Stan at Northridge is quite knowledgeable and great to deal with.  He lives just up the road from me, and i always come with cash and get much better deals that i expect.  

I am still fairly new into the jeep scene, but been upgrading vehicles for longer than i care to remember.  The best advice i can give you is this.  What ever you upgrade, upgrade one level past what you think you will need.  It really sucks when you have to buy things twice because you only bought just enough last time.  if you need 2.5" of lift to tuck 31's, get 4" cus you will want to tuck bigger later kind of idea.  The little price you pay more now will be saved in the end.  

The last truck pop and I built up has 2 spare carbs, 1 spare intake, 1 spare set of heads, 2 spare cams, spare transmission, etc etc etc.

I have gone to Modern Motors all my things, However I have recently dealt with Northridge aswell. very good.
